LEMOSHO ROUTE

The Lemosho route approaches Kilimanjaro from the western side, It is the best route with more acclimatization chances and with more success rate. The Lemosho route on the second day gives a chance for the hiker to climb to the Top of the first Erupted peak of Kilimanjaro, The Shira Peak that rises to 3875 m, before getting to the highest one Uhuru peak 5895m on day 6.  The route joins the Machame route on day 4. Afterwards, Lemosho follows the same route through Lava Tower, Barranco and Barafu, known as the southern circuit. There are several options to complete the trek over 6, 7, or 8 days based on experience.

On your arrival, at the airport you will meet our driver and office staff already there waiting for you with your name on a special board, for welcoming you and driving to your hotel in Arusha. Here you will meet your Mountain guide for gears rechecking up, just to make sure you have everything important for the Best experience on the Mountain, and give the full Mountain briefing about the trip
Arusha to Lemosho gate to Big tree campsite. Elevation: 1,200 m to 1,950 m to 2,850 m Distance: 9 km Hiking Time: 3-4 hours Habitat: Montane Forest We will pick you up from your hotel drive to Lemosho gate for registration. Having your Lunch at the Gate. From this point we start the trek across undisturbed Montane forest decorated with Black and White Colobus Monkey to the camp where dinner and overnight will take place.
Big tree campsite to Shira One campsite Elevation(m): 2850m to 3600m Distance: 10km Hiking time: 5hours Habitat: Moorland and heather land Shira is the one among the three peaks which erupted in the Kilimanjaro ecosystem. The beautiful valleys and hills left up by the first eruption of Kilimanjaro give very nice views over these areas. We will have about 5 hours to Shira 1 camp for the lunch dinner (For Seven Days hikers, they will just have Lunch then heading to Shira Two Camp overnight at 3850m elevation)
Shira One Campsite to Shira Two Campsite Elevation: 3600m to 3850m Distance: 7km Hiking time: 4 hours This is one of the short days of the trek. With less steep hills, and more flat and gentle ups, it will take about two hours to get to the top of Cathedral peak. 3870m where you will enjoy best views from natural valleys on lower slopes of the mountain. Then later heading to Shira Two camp for the hot lunch, dinner and overnight
Shira two campsite to Barranco campsite Elevation 3800m to 3950m Distance: 13km Hiking time: 7-8 hours Habitat: Moorland This is a long acclimatization day. We will have an early breakfast then start trekking to the eastern side, follow the junction leading to Lava tower rock base 4600m for acclimatization and hot lunch. Afterwards, we will start descend down to Barranco campsite through other side of the Mountain for dinner and overnight at Barranco campsite
Barranco campsite to Karanga campsite Elevation: 3950m to 3900m Distance: 6 km Hiking time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Moorland Today is a short day of trekking. In the morning we will start by climbing the great Barranco wall that rises up to 4200m, then start downs and ups, all the way to Karanga campsite for a hot lunch. After lunch you will have a bit of rest and get another acclimatization of trekking higher than the camp and back for the dinner and overnight.
Karanga campsite to Barafu campsite Elevation: 3900m to 4620m Distance: 8 km Hiking time: 3-4 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Today the trek up to the Barafu ridge campsite., the basecamp. It is our last camp before the summit accent. So here we will have an early dinner at 1700hrs then rest until midnight when we commence our push for the summit.
Barafu hut campsite to Uhuru peak to Mweka hut campsite Elevation: 4620m to 5895m to 3100m Distance: 15km Hiking time: 10 - 12 hours Habitat: Desert and ice (Arctic Zone) Wake at 11pm, have a light breakfast and last preparations for our summit ascent. Departure for the summit is at 12:00AM. Expect to reach the summit after six or Seven hours. The distance from Basecamp to the summit is about 5km, steep up but the trail designed on Zig zag way, to me it is easy for trekking. Getting to the summit, haven't good times, pictures then trekking back to basecamp that will take only 2.5 to 3 hrs. to Barafu camp, stop for lunch and short rest, and later start the hike down to Mweka camp for dinner and overnight.
Mweka hut campsite to Mweka gate Elevation: 3100m to 1700m Distance: 9km Descending time: 3-4 hours Habitat: Montane forest After breakfast, you will descend down to Mweka park gate walking across Montane forest, sign out having lunch at gate or Moshi town, before driving back to your hotel in Arusha.
